Signalling when moving off and parking

Signals should communicate useful information to other road users, not become an automatic ritual disconnected from observation.

Observe first

Decide who is around you and whether a signal will actually help them understand your intention.

Too early can mislead; too late can be useless. Signal when it clearly relates to the manoeuvre you are about to make.

After the manoeuvre, make sure the indicator is no longer giving false information.
